"Park Slope Communication Center has been a wonderful place for my son’s speech needs. First off, I’d like to say that Laura Reisler is amazing at what she does. I noticed improvements in my son’s speech within a months time. Not only is she helping him with his lisp, he loves going to see her. Since day one, my son has been excited to go to his speech lessons with Laura. He notices the improvements and is proud of himself for making them. Laura is truly wonderful. She takes her time after every session to go through what the lesson was about and what we need to work on at home. Once my son made significant improvements, she cut our sessions down to once a week (we were going twice a week). I would recommend this place to anyone who needs speech therapy." "Dr. Laura Reisler is a miracle worker! We brought our daughter Gemma to her when she
was a little older than 2 and diagnosed with a speech delay. Not only did she help Gemma find her words, but she was intuitive with how she worked with her. Even though she was so young, Dr. Reisler quickly assessed that Gemma comprehended everything she said, and more than just parroting words, she was able to communicate with Gemma at a higher level, and not just as a 2 year old. Without this added level of intuition into how our daughter listened as well as communicated, it would have likely taken much, much longer for my daughter to learn to speak, or worse, she would have been miserable throughout the process, and possibly have grown to resent it. Through a mix of play therapy, and genuine conversation and connection, our daughter is now one of the most verbal children you will ever meet: she went from being speech delayed to a genuine chatterbox, and we couldn't be more grateful." "When my daughter Tamara first started coming here, she was struggling with reading and not meeting the criteria required at school. Although a creative, enthusiastic and bright little girl, reading was a “no go” area for her. She knew the sounds in words, but she would flip them around, like writing "ro" for "or." We were told to work on it at home, but she would cry. She hated reading. She wanted people to do it for her. I had to read homework questions for her because she couldn't really do it. I asked the director of the Rivendell School, where my son attends, for a recommendation and she recommended Park Slope Communication Center. What a difference! Not only is she doing fine in school, but she now loves to read, always carries a book with her, goes to bed with books, and calls herself a reader. And although she no longer really needs the help, and has cut out other activities, she loves coming here so we continue to bring her, even though we live in Bay Ridge, a half hour away. "Hi Laura, I can’t wait until next week to tell you this! Today Gus’s teacher came dashing out of school to tell me that she had done the mid-year reading assessments and Gus has jumped to an ‘N’ level in reading from a J/K at the first report card in November. She was so excited and proud of him (as am I). He’s been working so hard he really deserves this! I have been seeing him making progress at home for so long but it is really wonderful that it is showing so clearly at school.
